NU GSPP’s international collaboration within the International Energy Agency’s (IEA)
11.03.2024Between 4-5th of March 2024, NU GSPP Associate Professor Serik Orazgaliyev took part in a High-Level Workshop of International Network for Energy Innovation Policy convened at the International Energy Agency (IEA) headquarters in Paris. The Workshop convened senior government officials, business leaders, international organisations and civil society to discuss the latest developments on the subject and learn from the case studies on Clean Energy Innovation Policies. Dr. Orazgaliyev joined a session of the IEA’s Committee on Energy Research and Technology, where he presented the results of the SDSN Case study on Clean Energy and Innovation Policies in Kazakhstan.
This case study is developed jointly in international collaboration by S.Xenarios (CSIRO, Australia), S.Tsani (NKUA, Greece), A. Sembayeva (SDSN, Kazakhstan) and S.Orazgaliyev (SDSN/NU GSPP). It is expected that the edited volume including the case studies of Clean Energy and Innovation Policies will be published by the IEA prior to COP 29 which will take place in November 2024. SDSN’s project with IEA on Clean energy innovation policies and institutions has three main objectives: 1). to fill a critical knowledge gap by compiling energy innovation policy challenges and approaches in Kazakhstan, and highlighting how they differ from OECD economy contexts. 2) It is believed that the outcome of this work will inform decision-makers and will bring Kazakhstan’s perspective to multilateral forums 3) Lastly, the IEA project aimed to establish an enduring network of experts, scholars and practitioners that can learn from one another and have a channel to bring arising issues to the attention of the international community. The above-mentioned workshop also served to initiate this network.
The International Energy Agency (IEA) is an intergovernmental organisation, established in 1974 that was set up under the framework of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) to provide policy recommendations, analysis and data on the global energy sector. The core activity of the IEA is providing policy advice to its member states and Associated countries to support their energy security and advance their transition to clean energy.
