GSPP Welcomed New Students

The Nazarbayev University Graduate School of Public Policy welcomed new students with a week of orientation activities in a virtual format that begun on Saturday, August 7.

This year 78 students were enrolled with Graduate School of Public Policy, including 26 students  with MPP, 41 – with MPA, and 11 with PhD programs. Therewith, the School has welcomed 7 international students across three programs who came from Afghanistan, China, Mexico, Pakistan, and Tanzania.

“I sincerely hope that you are not here just to collect another degree or to add another title to your collection. Instead I hope that you are here, because you strongly believe, as we all do, that Good Governance Matters,” said Professor Weng Tat Hui, the GSPP Dean during his welcoming speech.

Dean stressed that “The GSPP has managed to cope well in teaching and learning during the pandemic, but it is not the best quality learning environment and experience that we can provide to produce the desired learning outcomes. Our education experience has shown that the physical in-person campus community has a high impact on the quality of the educational process. For this reason, the GSPP aims to provide for you this learning environment by having in-person teaching this Fall 2021 semester. We are expecting students who are fully vaccinated to attend our in-person classes. We are looking forward to seeing you in the classroom!” Therefore, the Dean encouraged the students to get the vaccination shots as soon as possible in order to benefit from the opportunities that the School is providing for them.

GSPP is the only school in Central Asia where the Masters programs for Public Policy and Public Administration are fully accredited by the European Association for Public Administration Accreditation (EAPAA). “We are not resting on our achievements, we are always seeking to improve our programs further,” said Professor Weng Tat Hui.

Orientation activities were designed to provide the newcomers with relevant information about the Nazarbayev University and the Graduate School of Public Policy, promote engagement with the University and School’s mission and values, explore programs’ requirements and modules, and offer opportunities for students to connect with each other.

All students have been strongly recommended to regularly check their NU email accounts for important updates.
