Reforming Healthcare System in Singapore

Dr. Phua Kai Hong, exchange professor at the Graduate School of Public Policy gave a public talk on April 25. The primary focus of the lecture was reforming and financing healthcare system in Singapore. He provided major facts from Singapore’s historical background analyzing premises for development of this area in the country.

Dr. Phua Kai Hong informed the audience on all recent trends in the healthcare system. Due to reforms introduced since 1983 Singapore manages to balance and avoid extremes while taking measures. One of the features highlighted during the lecture was corporatization of hospitals. Another important characteristic of healthcare in Singapore is cluster based management.

Generally, Singapore’s health system is ranked extremely high and is reputed for high quality, choice and efficiency. External guests from the Ministry of Health, Republican center for healthcare development and other medical institutions attended the talk at GSPP.
